Governance, Leadership and Key Achievements Across Nine Thematic Areas in Lagelu Local Government
Leadership at the local government level is ultimately measured by its impact on the communities it serves. Since assuming office as Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government on May 24, 2024, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen Morenikeji has pursued a development agenda centered on grassroots needs, infrastructure, human capital development, security, economic empowerment and institutional growth. Twenty-seven months into his administration as the Executive Chairman, the breadth of interventions recorded across Lagelu presents a picture of a local government leadership seeking to translate governance into visible community development under his watch.
The defining feature of the Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen’s administration has been its multi-sectoral approach to development. Rather than concentrating its interventions and projects in one area, the administration’s reported activities span roads and public infrastructure, security, trade and agriculture, education, healthcare, electrification, social support, the working environment of the council and his approach to open governance. From the reconstruction and dualisation of major roads to the provision of boreholes and electricity transformers, the interventions are directed at some of the fundamental infrastructure needs of communities across Lagelu.
Security and economic development have also featured prominently in his administration’s priorities. The establishment of Lagelu Local Government Secure, construction of an Amotekun permanent base, support for security agencies and the launch of Operation Show of Force demonstrate an emphasis on creating a safer environment for residents and businesses. At the same time, initiatives involving the Lagelu Garri Factory, farmers’ support, agricultural inputs, mini-farm settlements, business support and a cooperative credit bank reflect an effort to strengthen local economic activity and create opportunities for residents.

Education, healthcare and social welfare constitute another major dimension of the administration’s community-development agenda. The sponsorship of indigent students for JAMB and WASSCE, facilitation of school construction and renovation projects, distribution of educational materials, renovation of Lagelu General Hospital, provision of first-aid boxes and support for vulnerable residents demonstrate an approach that extends beyond physical infrastructure to human development. The recognition of academic excellence, including support for outstanding students, further places education within the administration’s broader investment in the next generation.
The administration has also devoted attention to the institutions through which local governance is delivered. The re-modelling of the council’s administrative facilities, construction of a dedicated legislative building and development of an official website for Lagelu Local Government point to an emphasis on strengthening the council itself while making governance more accessible. Taken together, the record of over 90 multi-sectoral projects and initiatives across nine thematic areas provides a broad basis for assessing the first 27 months of Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen’s stewardship. The projects and initiatives documented below offer a detailed account of the administration’s interventions across Lagelu Local Government.

From the above, Kamorudeen’s investment in roads connecting communities to water infrastructure, electricity, schools, healthcare facilities, security infrastructure, agricultural support, social interventions and improvements to the council’s institutional environment, his record of the past 27 months can obviously see to cut across many of the areas that directly affect the lives of Lagelu Local Government people.
The over ninety (90) projects and initiatives documented here therefore represent more than a catalogue of completed and ongoing or initiated interventions. In all sincerity, those provide a framework through which the first 27 months of Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen’s administration can be viewed.
With Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen securing the APM ticket for another term, his record of multi-sectoral projects and initiatives provides a strong basis for him to continue. Supporting his return would allow Lagelu Local Government to consolidate the gains already recorded, complete ongoing projects and build on the foundation laid across infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, agriculture and other critical sectors.
