A meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s 2023 governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, at the Presidential Villa has reportedly signalled a fresh reconciliation effort aimed at resolving the lingering crisis within the party in the state.
Sources close to Daily News NG disclosed that Folarin was invited for consultations over the internal divisions that emerged following the APC primary elections in Oyo State.
According to the sources spoken with this newspaper, the former Senate Leader conveyed the grievances of party leaders and stakeholders, particularly concerns over what they described as imbalances in the conduct of the party’s primary elections.
The sources further claimed that President Tinubu appealed to Folarin to play a leading role in reconciling aggrieved party members and rebuilding unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the goal of strengthening the APC’s chances of returning to power in Oyo State.
Responding to reports that the party might concede some Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly tickets as part of the reconciliation process, sources familiar with the discussions dismissed the speculation. They argued that such a move could deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.
The sources added that Folarin welcomed the President’s intervention and assured him of his commitment to working towards a stronger and more united APC capable of pushing a formidable challenge in the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the meeting has generated fresh discussions among party members, with many expressing concerns over the political future of other aggrieved governorship aspirants whose recent meetings have heightened tensions within the Oyo APC.
