OKE’BADAN HIGH SCHOOL — It was an atmosphere of reconnection and renewed friendships as the 1996 Set of the Oke’Badan High School Old Students Association celebrated the 30th anniversary of their graduation from the institution.
The event provided a platform for interactions and opportunities for old friends and schoolmates to reminisce about their experiences and shared memories over the past three decades since leaving school to pursue various careers and endeavours.
While thanking God for the journey so far, the Oke’Badan High School old students also remembered their classmates and colleagues who had passed on over the years, praying for God to continue to comfort their families and grant those still alive many more years to positively impact humanity and contribute to the development of their alma mater.
Speaking at the event through a paper presentation titled, “Security and the Law: What Every Citizen Should Know,” the Founder and Principal Partner at AOC Solicitors and Attorney, Barr. Akinlolu Oyebamiji, advocated responsible citizenship in the face of the country’s growing insecurity.
According to the Ibadan-based legal practitioner, “The security situation has become increasingly worrisome in recent times. However, the bandits giving us sleepless nights are not ghosts; they are our neighbours, customers, friends and people living around us. Why are we not challenging the status quo by building a strong community network to tackle this menace in our society?”
He added, “Security and welfare of the people remain the primary responsibility of government in line with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. However, it has reached a point where we must advise ourselves that security and welfare have become everyone’s responsibility. Every citizen must be vigilant and be willing to say something whenever they see something suspicious.”

“It is also important for citizens to demonstrate a high level of cooperation with government and other constituted authorities to ensure the collective security of society,” he said.
The reunion and anniversary celebration also featured other academic and social activities, as families and classmates strengthened relationships and discussed ways to further develop the school beyond its present state.
