The Agbaakin Youth Forum has endorsed Barr. Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency, ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The forum, comprising sons and daughters of Agbaakin from different walks of life, said its decision was based on considerations including experience, accessibility, youth inclusion, public service and Ashamu’s understanding of the aspirations of people at the grassroots. The group said the endorsement was not merely a political declaration, pledging to mobilise its members and networks through peaceful and lawful engagement in support of the candidate.
The development represents another public show of support for Ashamu from a youth-focused grassroots organisation as political activities gradually intensify across the constituency. The forum said it would embark on community engagement, grassroots mobilisation and awareness activities to communicate Ashamu’s message to residents, particularly young people.
Speaking on its motivation, the group emphasised the need for greater youth participation in politics and development, urging Agbaakin youths to move beyond personal interests and differences and participate actively in the democratic process.
The forum also identified youth and women empowerment, human-capital development, employment opportunities, infrastructure and people-centred representation among the issues it expects the candidate to prioritise.
The Agbaakin Youth Forum said its activities would remain peaceful, responsible and issue-based, adding that it would encourage informed political participation and constructive engagement among residents.
The endorsement adds to the growing number of grassroots groups and stakeholders publicly engaging with Ashamu’s candidacy as the 2027 contest for the Oyo Federal Constituency seat takes shape.
The forum concluded its declaration with a message to its members and supporters: “Agbaakin youths are united. Agbaakin youths are ready. Agbaakin youths are mobilised.”
Oyo Federal Constituency is one of the elections to watch out for in 2027 general elections as Seun Ashamu is dragging the House of Representatives seat of the federal constituency with the three term incumbent lawmaker, Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
