Alhaji Waheed Olajide Former Oyo State SSG

Former Secretary to the Oyo State Government under the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Alhaji (Chief) Waheed Akin Olajide, FCA, has died at the age of 76.

 

Akin Olajide, a distinguished alumnus and founding member of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association, reportedly died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He had been buried on Wednesday, August 26, according to Islamic rites.

 

Born on June 21, 1950, Olajide attended Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, between 1966 and 1969, where he graduated with Grade One.

He proceeded to the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife, where he obtained a Second Class Upper degree in Chemistry. He later studied Accounting at the University of Lagos, Akoka, became a Chartered Accountant and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ibadan, where he emerged as the overall best student in his class in 1991.

 

The deceased was an educationist, publisher, technocrat, politician, Ibadan chief, religious leader and philanthropist.

 

He served as Managing Director of University Press Plc and National President of the Muslim Association of Nigeria. He was also a former National Secretary and founding member of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association.

 

Alhaji Akin Olajide founded Sankore College, Ibadan, which he voluntarily handed over to the Oyo State Government after his 70th birthday.

 

Paying tribute, Oloye ‘Wale Adeoye described the deceased as a father, benefactor and mentor whose contributions had left an enduring impact on his life.

 

Adeoye said Olajide supported him during a difficult period of illness and taught him valuable lessons about life.

 

He prayed Allah to grant the deceased Aljana Firdaous and give his family, associates and members of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association and Muslim Association of Nigeria the fortitude to bear the loss.
