The Akinjide Kazeem Akinola Foundation (AKA Foundation) has completed 95 per cent of its solar-powered streetlights installation project across Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, with the initiative reaching nearly 57 communities as part of efforts to improve security and stimulate economic activities.
The Foundation said the remaining installations would be completed before the end of the week or early next week, after which processing would commence in Egbeda Local Government Area, marking the next phase of the intervention.
Speaking through his Media Assistant, the founder of the Foundation and an APC chieftain in Oyo State, Hon. Akinola Kazeem, expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation and support throughout the implementation of the “Light Up Ona-Ara” initiative.
He also commended the dedication of the project manager, site engineers and volunteers who monitored the installations across the benefiting communities.
Akinola said reports reaching the AKA Foundation indicated that the project was already making a significant impact in communities where the solar-powered streetlights had been installed.
According to him “I have been receiving very encouraging reports on the impact of this project in almost all the communities that have benefited from the Light Up Ona-Ara initiative. From the outset, our goal has been to improve security in our communities while boosting economic activities, particularly through night-time trading and other legitimate businesses,” he said.
“We are 95 per cent done with the installation process in Ona-Ara Local Government. Before the end of this week or early next week, we will be 100 per cent done and immediately commence preparations for the sister local government, Egbeda.”
Reaffirming the philosophy behind the Foundation’s interventions, Akinola said “its programs were driven by a commitment to community development rather than political entitlement as we have reiterated over time, at AKA Foundation, ours is not about entitlement but about community service that helps strengthen our collective existence as a people.”
The “Light Up Ona-Ara” initiative is one of the Foundation’s flagship community development programs, aimed at enhancing public safety, improving night-time visibility and supporting socio-economic growth across underserved communities.
