Emeritus Professor Ayọ Bamgbose was reputedly died on Saturday at the age of 94.
His death has thrown Nigerian academics and others into mourning session. It can be generally described as losing one of our foremost scholars and leading advocates of indigenous African languages
His death occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
He was born on January 27, 1932 in Odopotu, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. Prof Ayo Bamgbose was widely regarded as Nigeria’s first Professor of Linguistics and one of Africa’s most influential scholars in language studies.
