The Oyo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has cautioned one of its governorship aspirants, Hon. Saheed Oladele, popularly known as Baameko, to stop presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate, saying no such decision has been taken.

The resolution was reached during a party meeting attended by state executives, local government and zonal leaders, where members were briefed on the ongoing upload of the party’s candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Oyo State Chairman of the SDP, Michael Okunlade, said Oladele attended the meeting to apologise to party members over what he described as previous misunderstandings.

“Baameko came to apologise to the party, and everybody saw it. His apology was accepted by party members. However, a motion was moved that he should stop parading himself as the gubernatorial candidate. He is an aspirant, and the decision of the party will be communicated to him. For now, he is not our candidate and is not recognised as such. That is the resolution reached today,” Okunlade said.

Okunlade who doubles as the gubernatorial candidate of the party also warned Oladele against granting media interviews or participating in podcasts capable of undermining the integrity of the party.

According to him, the SDP remains open to all interested aspirants and would eventually determine who flies its flag in accordance with its internal processes.

He disclosed that the party had successfully uploaded the names of its three senatorial candidates, 14 House of Representatives candidates and its presidential candidate to the INEC portal, while the upload of governorship and House of Assembly candidates is scheduled for next week.

He also noted that the party has more than one governorship aspirant, including Oloye Olusegun Abiodun Agboola, an Ibadan Magaji, adding that the party reserves the right to consider any qualified aspirant where necessary.

Speaking on the party’s prospects, the SDP chairman described the party as a credible alternative for Nigerians and called on more people to join its ranks.

“We welcome everybody to join the party. We welcome anyone with political aspirations, and we can assure them that their aspirations will be protected. SDP remains the credible alternative for Nigerians,” he said.

Speaking earlier at the meeting, Oladele apologised to party leaders and members for his actions, which he said may have caused misunderstanding within the party.

He appealed for forgiveness, expressing hope that the SDP would remain united and emerge stronger ahead of the 2027 general elections.
