Former lawmaker, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, popularly known as Ayo Solar, has formally resigned from his position as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland, citing irreconcilable differences with the current monarch.
In a resignation statement made available to the public, Adeseun explained that his decision was driven by his unwillingness to continue working with a leadership style he described as dismissive of constructive advice. He further alleged that individuals who had contributed significantly to the development of Ogbomosoland prior to the installation of the current monarch are now being unjustly regarded as adversaries of the palace.
The former Mayegun emphasized that his resignation was voluntary and preemptive, noting that he would prefer to step down rather than face any form of suspension. He also urged the monarch to confer the title on any individual deemed fit.

Addressing controversies surrounding the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Dr. Yunus Toliah Olusina Ayilara II, Adeseun provided clarification on the selection process. He explained that the appointment followed a two-stage screening process—first within the Ayilara family and subsequently at the Central Mosque. According to him, before the commencement of the final interview, attendees were asked to confirm whether all three candidates were bona fide members of the Ayilara family. The gathering unanimously affirmed their lineage.
He disclosed that upon conclusion of the exercise, Dr. Ayilara emerged as the top candidate with 92 marks, significantly ahead of the other contenders who scored 52 and 20 marks respectively. Following his emergence, the Imam was presented to the palace for traditional blessings.
Reflecting on his own conferment as Mayegun, Adeseun stated that the late Oba Jimoh Ajagungbade III honoured him with the title in recognition of his contributions to the socio-economic development of Ogbomosoland. He highlighted his role in job creation for indigenes and noted his pioneering effort in introducing solar-powered street lighting to Ogbomoso, his constituency, Oyo Central Senatorial District, and parts of the South-West region.
Adeseun concluded by expressing his willingness to support any future reconciliation efforts aimed at fostering unity and progress in Ogbomosoland. However, he made it clear that such involvement would not include a return to his former title but rather a collaborative effort to advance the development of the community.
