The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), the professional regulatory body for teachers in the country, has once again come under scrutiny for failing to meet the basic standards required for its certification examinations.

Thousands of candidates from various parts of Oyo State were left stranded and visibly frustrated at the designated examination centre, a popular private school located in the Akobo area of Ibadan. The centre, which was expected to host more than 2,000 prospective teachers, reportedly had only ten (10) computer systems available. And none of which were functional at the time the examination was scheduled to begin.

As a result, not a single candidate was able to sit for the examination as of the time of filing this report.

Videos obtained by our correspondent show candidates seated on the bare floor, while others wandered around the cramped premises, uncertain about their fate. The space, clearly inadequate for such a large number of candidates, sparked concerns about TRCN’s preparedness and the overall credibility of the exercise.

Several candidates who spoke to journalists expressed disappointment, describing the situation as embarrassing, disheartening, and a reflection of systemic inefficiency in Nigeria system.
