By Apostle Asimiyu
For more than a decade since our paths first crossed at the Olorundare Political Garden, I have been privileged to know and work closely with Hon. Wole Akinleye, the current Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government. From that very first encounter, it was clear he was a man of vision, wisdom, and uncommon leadership qualities. He has since been a blessing to me personally and a constant source of inspiration to many.
I remember vividly when a team I led from the University of Ibadan was working on a research project titled “Reintegration and Post-Reconciliation in Sasa Market” after an ethnic crisis between the Hausa and Yoruba communities had threatened the peace of the area. Sasa Market falls within Akinyele Local Government, and one of the people we approached for insight was none other than Hon. Wole Akinleye.
Honestly, he almost dominated the interview session with his brilliance, historical knowledge, and deep understanding of the communities around Sasa. His responses reflected not only his grasp of the issues but also his commitment to building unity and progress in the local government. From that day, my admiration for him doubled, as it became clear that he is truly a round peg in the round hole of Akinyele politics.
His political intervention and leadership sagacity in the affairs of Akinyele have distinguished him among his contemporaries. In a political climate where many struggle to leave a mark, Hon. Wole has consistently demonstrated rare courage, strategic thinking, and a genuine passion for the progress of his people.
As Local Government Chairman, he has empowered thousands of youths through skill acquisition programs, job opportunities, and mentorship. He has championed developmental projects that directly improve the lives of Akinyele indigenes , from road grading to the construction of school buildings, from health centers to community empowerment programs, from a modern shopping complex with excellent facilities to agricultural extension programs. These are not just promises; they are tangible impacts felt in every corner of our local government.
His sense of humor is second to none, making him approachable and loved across all divides. Hon. Wole knows how to lead with both firmness and compassion, blending authority with humility in a way that inspires trust and loyalty.
As he celebrates another year of life today, I join countless others in honoring a man whose life continues to be a blessing to our community. May God bless him with greater wisdom, renewed strength, and even more fruitful years in service to humanity.
Happy Birthday, Hon. Wole Akinleye , your light will never dim.
