“Were La Fi Nwo Were”: Makinde, PDP Put Fuji Star, Currency in His Place, Engage Juju Artist for State Congress

There seems to be setbacks for popular Ibadan Fuji musician, Taiye Currency, following the continuous backlashes that trailed his controversial performance at the recently held Olubadan coronation at Mapo Hill.

In a swift move, the Oyo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has sidelined him and engaged the services of a juju artist to take his place as the party’s preferred performer.

Undeterred by the uproar, insiders say Governor Seyi Makinde and his PDP allies see the decision as both symbolic and strategic, aimed at avoiding unnecessary drama and public backlash at the party’s forthcoming congress.

According to party sources, Currency’s display at the coronation was considered embarrassing, self-serving, and out of tune with the solemnity of the occasion, a misstep they believe risked undermining the party’s image in Oyo’s political theatre.

By moving against him, the PDP intends to send a clear signal that loyalty and reputation must walk hand in hand, especially in a city with as much prestige and tradition as Ibadan.
