The University of Ibadan has held a 2 – day orientation programme for fresh students who were admitted into various undergraduate programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, charged the newly admitted students to be mindful of their character as a heavily weighted factor in earning the degree of the University of Ibadan.
He stated that the University of Ibadan prides itself in training well-rounded individuals whose academic performance alone does not earn them the degree of UI, but rather, the certificate is awarded based on character and learning.
The Vice-Chancellor said the students should see their admission to the prestigious University of Ibadan as not just a privilege but a rare one considering the number of people that applied, out of which just a fraction was admitted.
He stated that the admission process in the University of Ibadan is completely transparent, objective, and stringent as the institution is always interested in the best input so that its output can be excellent.
Professor Adebowale proudly stated that the University of Ibadan has one of the best and book-studded libraries in the country and he, therefore, encouraged the fresh students to make good use of the Kenneth Dike Library to deepen and augment what they are taught in class.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, registration is a ritual that is carried out at the beginning of every session until a student graduates from the University, he charged the students to take the issue of registration seriously because that is the basis of their studentship.
He also encouraged the newly admitted students to be part of the campus politics but in a very responsible and functional manner, adding that there is an enabling environment for students to get involved in governance through the democratic process of electing their representatives at various levels.
Professor Adebowale reiterated that the University of Ibadan has zero tolerance for cultism and encouraged the students to join only registered students’ clubs on campus.
Nine paper presentations were made at the two – day orientation programme.
The papers were:-
■ University of Ibadan: Sustaining the University Legacy by the Registrar, Mr. G. O. Saliu.
■ Financial Probity and Management of Students’ Funds by the Bursar, Mr Adewuyi Popoola.
■ Security Alertness and Safety in a University Community by the Ag. Chief Safety Officer, Mr Lasisi Oyekanmi.
■ Exploring Sports Beyond the Physical Well-Being by the Ag. Director of Sports, Mr O. K. Eyiomo.
■ The Role of the Library in Building an Excellent University Community by the University Librarian, Dr. Mercy A. Iroaganachi
■ The Ideal Student in a Competitive Learning Environment by the Dean of Students, Professor A. I. Abiona.
■ Hall Rules and Regulations: Defaulters; Nemesis by the Warden of Kuti Hall, Dr. Babatunde Ojebuyi.
■ The Role of the University Health Care Services by the Director, University Health Services, Dr. Aderonke Ajav.
To encourage punctuality and neatness among the new students, early bird students were recognised and awarded gifts by the University. The students were:
