The Coalition of Yoruba Students and Youth Movement on Monday staged a protest in Ibadan against what they described as alleged sabotage by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) towards the Dangote Refinery, following the recent imbroglio between the two entities.
The aggrieved students and youths, who marched peacefully through major streets, declared their total support for the refinery, stressing that it remains one of Nigeria’s most strategic national assets in the quest for energy security and economic independence.
They warned PENGASSAN to desist from any action capable of undermining the operations of the refinery, noting that such attempts could plunge the country into deeper fuel crises and worsen the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.
In their statement, the protesters called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and other Nigerian governors to wade into the matter, urging them to mobilise efforts in safeguarding the Dangote Refinery, which they said has already begun easing the burden of high fuel importation on citizens.
According to the students, sustaining the refinery’s operations is crucial to Nigeria’s future, as it provides jobs, strengthens the naira, and guarantees fuel availability.
