EKITI STATE — The All Progressives Congress APC in the South West geo-politcal zone of Nigeria has commended voters in Ekiti state for trooping out in large numbers to elect Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebamiji for another term of four years in office saying that the development has again confirmed the people of the state as informed minds who desire the best for their state and country at all times.
Gov. Oyebamiji emerged the overall winner of the gubernatorial election conducted in Ekiti state on Saturday as he defeated candidates of about 13 registered political parties that participated in the poll and thus created a record as the first sitting governor to win a re-election in the state.
In a statement issued at the weekend and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its South West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ayobami Afolabi, APC described the feat recorded by Oyebamiji as “not only unprecedented but a testament to the fact that most Nigerians appreciate the quality leadership being offered by both the governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu without minding the antics of some opposition elements who do not mean well for the Nigerian society.
“About 90 per cent of the total votes cast in the 16 local government councils across Ekiti state on Saturday went to the candidate of our great Party (APC) and this speaks volume of the decision of the good people of the state to keep faith with the Broom Party. We shall not take this for granted as Gov. Oyebamiji and other elected officials from the state have again been challenged to do more in terms of quality leadership, innovation and effective service delivery.
“In less than two months, Osun state will also go to poll and we believe that it would be an opportunity for the voters in that state not only to return to the mainstream politics but also elect a governor they can be proud of anywhere in the world. The best time is now for the entire South West people to rediscover the magic wand with which the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and his team positioned the region above its peers in the 1950s/60s and none of the 6 states in the geopolitical zone can afford to be left behind.
“While we are expressing our gratitude to the good people of Ekiti state for making it possible for our Party to retain power in their state, we urge them to improve on the feat by casting greater number of votes to the Progressive Party in the next general election where they are being expected to support President Tinubu and all the candidates of the APC at the polls. When they do this, greater dividends of democracy would come to them and they would have their names etched in gold.” Afolabi added.
