All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant and Oyo North lawmaker, Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari, PhD, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of an erudite scholar and pride of Ogbomosho, Professor AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji.
The death of the renowned academic was announced in the early hours of Saturday, December 20, 2025.

In a condolence message, Senator Buhari described the late Professor Raji as a man of uncommon character who embodied tolerance, accommodated differences, and was deeply committed to nurturing minds for the good of society.
According to him, “The late Professor Raji was more than just an Ogbomosho indigene; he was a man whose influence cut across different walks of life, making significant contributions to academic advancement, Nigerian society, and Islam.”

Professor AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji was an eminent scholar of repute in the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. He served as a former Director of the University of Ibadan Management Information System (MIS).
He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Ibadan and later earned a PhD from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was also a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Beyond academia, the late scholar served the nation as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he was posted to three South-West states—Ekiti, Ogun, and Osun.
At the University of Ibadan, Professor Raji also served as Chairman, Information and Communication Technology. His areas of specialisation included Crop Storage and Processing Engineering, General Mechanisation, Systems Modelling, and ICT.
Buhari pray for the family of the late scholar; wife and children, and the entire Raji family that Allah will console and give them the fortitude to bear the death of Prof. Raji.
