Let me assume it is becoming increasingly embarrassing for the former first female Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the first female Senator for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, to witness the continuous fumbling and public nuisance being constituted by the “Were wo ni o m’Aduke” Chairman of Oyo East Local Government.
From a controversial shopping complex commissioning that generated public ridicule last week, to a ‘babiala’ political somersault now disguised as Local Government Secretariat renovation, one would wonder if the Chairman is truly upright in thinking — or if he even understands the rudiments of governance and the responsibilities of the office he currently holds. His dishonourable and ‘dis-chairmanship’ behaviours are now on full display, and it is unfortunate that opportunity missed road in Oyo East.
Let me say this without mincing words: I do not know how Alhaja, the cerebral Distinguished herself, arrived at the decision to support the Chairmanship candidacy of such an inconsequential and nauseating individual — especially when there are well-known, cultured, and intelligent followers within her political family. I honestly don’t know when this embarrassment he constantly causes her will come to an end.

This “babiala” mentality is nothing short of gross misconduct and should be treated as such by the legislative arm of government at the local level — that is, if they are legislative enough to do so.
The office of the Chairman is an institution and must be respected. Even in the face of unclear local government autonomy and possible inadequate funding from their ‘Oga at the top’, turning the local government into a platform for “babiala” politics is a deep insult to the people of Oyo East and Oyo Town entirely.
