One Party State and How GSM is Saving Common Man From a World Of Anonymity

GSM has been shouting himself hoarse recently. He was vituperating and showing the world that passionate to him is the nascent democracy we are enjoying in Nigeria. He offers a rider that “The democracy is feeble and can be easily broken. Hence, if the country tilts to a mono party state, the choice making, which is the bedrock of democracy will be crushed.

Makinde’s thoughts lend credence to the words of Ayo Kehinde in an essay edited by Professor Olatunji Oyeshile and Francis offor. “Our problem lies with the leadership. They are so removed from the people that they are looked upon as foreigners. They are driven by self-interest, so excessive that their peoples interests are forgotten.”

Without participatory democracy, the President of a country can no longer assert that “I am, because we are.” Since he is imposed and not elected in a political contest. This is what brings about what a philosopher tagged “crisis of a failed state.”

When other parties are mulled for the voice of a lone party to soar, then democracy has been dealt a terrible blow. The common voters will, therefore, feel powerless and alienated, and this may lead to distrust and leadership stagnation since where there is public discontents, people lose interest in politics and social order. Bad politics can then linger on as there is no room for alternative ideas. It’s a winner takes all.

GSM, in his resolve to save a common man from being a pariah, voiceless, and rendered shadowy, he has thus redoubled his efforts in bawling out why one party system will not work in Nigeria.

Governor Makinde recently stated in Yola during a civic reception held in honour of His Excellency (Rt. Hon) Ahmadu Fintiri, the Adamawa state Governor, why our democracy must be saved by voicing out why one party system won’t work in Nigeria.

GSM has declared, inter alia, “Nigeria will never become a one-party state, despite the frenetic moves by some people to push the country towards that direction.

He explained that “the plurality of ethnic nationalities won’t make the idea work”

He stated further that “In the history that was read, you can see that Nigeria is made up of several nations. As for those who are trying to push us into a one-party state, this is why it will not happen.”

GSM remains undaunted by the evil forces that want to subjugate PDP and other parties to soothe their selfish mindsets in order to make the country a single party state. May God continue to bless and empower the people’s governor to win this just war, for the sake of the masses in spite of all odds.
