NCC Seeks Public Input on Draft Spectrum Roadmap, 60 GHz Guidelines

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called on industry stakeholders and members of the public to submit their inputs on two newly released draft documents aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s communications sector.

The draft documents, which include the Draft Spectrum Roadmap for the Communications Sector (2025-2030) and the Draft Guidelines for the Use of the 60 GHz License-Exempt Band for Multi-Gigabit Wireless Systems, are available on the NCC’s website for public access and review.

According to the NCC, the Draft Spectrum Roadmap outlines its strategic direction for spectrum planning, allocation, and management between 2025 and 2030. The roadmap is designed to promote efficient spectrum utilization, support emerging technologies, drive broadband expansion, and ensure alignment of Nigeria’s spectrum policy with global best practices. The Commission believes that this will have a positive impact on the country’s communications sector, enabling it to keep pace with global developments and provide better services to Nigerians.

The Draft Guidelines for the Use of the 60 GHz License-Exempt Band, on the other hand, provide a regulatory framework for deploying high-capacity, short-range wireless systems capable of supporting multi-gigabit data speeds. This is expected to enable next-generation applications, including high-density urban broadband, fixed wireless access, enterprise connectivity, and backhaul solutions. The NCC notes that the 60 GHz band will play a vital role in supporting the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The commission enjoined operators, equipment manufacturers, consumer groups, industry stakeholders, and the general public to review the draft documents and submit their comments and recommendations. It further directed that all submissions should be sent electronically to ygibrahim@ncc.gov.ng, yabdulkadir@ncc.gov.ng, and jdavid@ncc.gov.ng no later than Friday, January 16, 2025.

The Commission emphasizes that stakeholder contributions will be critical to refining the frameworks to support innovation, investment, competition, and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s communications sector.
