Senator (Dr) Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari was born on January 28, 1968, and raised in the historic town of Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, a place that nurtured his values, shaped his vision, and laid the foundation for a lifetime of service and leadership.

Senator Yari ceremoniously concluded his tertiary education at Sokoto Polytechnic between 1991 and 1994, earning a certificate, and later a Diploma in Secretarial Studies in 2004. A true scholar and global thinker, he earned a Leadership and Change Certificate from the prestigious London School of Economics in 2023, further sharpening his skills in governance and strategy. Demonstrating an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, he was awarded a Master of Science in Finance and Investment Management from the University of Salford, Manchester, UK in 2025—an internationally acclaimed degree that not only elevates his expertise but also enhances his global stature.

Sen. Yari of the universe started his political career when he was graciously and overwhelmingly elected as a member representing Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency between 2007 and 2011. Owing to his extraordinary performance as a federal lawmaker, on 26th of April 2011, Obaloyin of Yorubaland, Sen. (Dr) Abdul-Aziz Yari was elected Governor of Zamfara State on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party(ANPP).
In the 2015 gubernatorial elections, he was re-elected as Governor on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a testament to the enduring confidence and trust his people placed in his leadership. On 18th May 2015, Sen. Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari’s colleagues in the Nigeria Governor’s Forum unanimously elected him as their Chairman. In 2023, he became a Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. It is worthy of note to state that no pen-bearer can write the history of the All Progressive Congress without alluring to his name as one of the founding stakeholders of the party.
