Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari, PhD, has advocate a complete local government autonomy to enhance inclusive governance and grassroots development. He made this known during a lecture on Local Government Autonomy at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he emphasized the importance of financially and administratively independent local governments in Nigeria’s development.
The lecture was delivered as part of the 23rd Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria, held at the institution’s Assembly Hall.

In his presentation, Senator Buhari underscored the critical role of local government autonomy in promoting inclusive governance, accelerating grassroots development and improving service delivery to citizens at the community level.
He noted that a strong and independent local government system remains central to deepening democracy and ensuring that governance reaches the people directly.

In recognition of his contributions to public administration and youth development, the National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPAS), The Polytechnic Ibadan Chapter, decorated Senator Buhari as the Grand Patron of the Department of Public Administration.
The students described the honour as a reflection of his consistent support for education, youth engagement and public sector reforms.
Senator Buhari, in his remarks, reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred and grassroots-driven governance, stating that the recognition from both professionals and students further strengthens his resolve to advocate policies that deliver democratic dividends at the local level.
