As Nigerians prepare for the end-of-year festivities, many travellers have expressed frustration over the sudden surge in airfares across major domestic routes. In response to public outcry, Senator AbdulFatai Buhari has stepped in to advocate for immediate relief measures to ease the burden on citizens.
At plenary on Tuesday in the Senate, Senator Buhari was seen addressing the Senate President and the entire house, emphasizing the need for fairness, transparency, and urgent intervention. He noted that many families rely on air travel during the festive period, and the sharp increase in ticket prices risks shutting people out of essential movement within the country.

The senator, who chairs a key Senate committee with oversight on aviation matters, stressed that the aviation sector must prioritise public interest while balancing operational realities. He highlighted the difficulties faced by students, workers, and families who travel home annually for reunions, ceremonies, and community events.

According to Senator Buhari, the Senate is already engaging regulatory agencies, airline operators, and relevant ministries to identify the root causes of the fare hike and implement swift corrective actions. He assured Nigerians that the National Assembly will not allow exploitative practices to overshadow the festive season.
His timely intervention has sparked widespread commendation, as many Nigerians welcome the move as a necessary step to restore affordability and fairness in the aviation sector, especially at a time when economic pressures are already high.
With the festive rush approaching, citizens are hopeful that Senator Buhari’s push will lead to clearer pricing structures and more affordable travel options in the days ahead.
