The ancient palace in Oyo town was agog on Sunday, December 21, 2025, as former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s son, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, were installed with prestigious Yoruba traditional titles.
The installation was performed by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, amid the presence of top government officials, traditional rulers, and eminent personalities from across the country.
Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari was installed as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland, a title the palace described as symbolic of love, compassion, justice, and service to humanity. According to the palace, the Obaloyin embodies hope and moral guidance and serves as a custodian of Yoruba values, traditions, and cultural heritage beyond political considerations.
The new Obaloyin was charged to act as a distinguished ambassador of Yorubaland within Nigeria and internationally, while promoting cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and developmental partnerships between Yorubaland and other regions of the country.
Barrister Seyi Tinubu was installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, a title deeply rooted in Yoruba history. The palace noted that the Okanlomo plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of Yoruba cultural identity.As part of his responsibilities, the new Okanlomo was charged to offer counsel to the throne, represent the interests of Yorubaland, protect its heritage, and serve as a unifying figure among the people.

Dignitaries at the event included the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, alongside several lawmakers; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Agbaakin Sunday Dare; Senators Teslim Folarin, AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari, Yunus Akintunde, Opeyemi Bamidele, and Olamilekan Yayi, as well as traditional rulers from different parts of the country and senior members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
