IBADAN — A frontline aspirant for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the forthcoming August 16 bye-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Olamide Junaid, has congratulated Professor Nentawe Yilwatda on his emergence as the new National Chairman of the party.
Professor Yilwatda, who also serves as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, was officially ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party as the new helmsman, succeeding Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the immediate past chairman and former Governor of Kano State.
In a statement made available to the press, Dr. Olamide described the appointment of Prof. Yilwatda as timely and strategic, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity to reposition the party for unity, inclusiveness, and electoral success.
According to her, “Prof. Yilwatda is stepping into a critical role at a defining moment. One of his first major tasks will be to ensure proper oversight of the forthcoming bye-elections across the country, particularly the unresolved issue surrounding the Ibadan North APC primary.”
She stressed that the lingering stalemate in the Ibadan North primary election poses a serious threat to the APC’s chances in the state, especially as the party looks ahead to reclaiming power in Oyo State come 2027.

“I believe the new National Chairman will ensure that justice and fairness are upheld in the internal affairs of the party. The APC must operate with a high sense of transparency and integrity if it is to win the confidence of the people,” she added.
Dr. Olamide also urged Prof. Yilwatda to enforce party discipline and adherence to the constitution, rules, and operational guidelines of the APC, calling for a spirit of non-partisanship in managing intra-party conflicts.
She concluded by wishing him a successful tenure, noting that his leadership style will determine how far the party goes in restoring trust among its members and supporters across the federation.
