Generally known as “Hon. Seye,” his name was more than a title; it was a melody in every household that had the privilege of knowing him. His presence always invoked a reflection on the true essence of what Omoluabi is—the hallmark of character and virtue in Yorubaland.
Humble. Detribalised. Sincere. Dedicated. Committed. And, above all, driven by an unwavering willingness to help. These were not just attributes; they were his identity. As we commemorate June 12 Democracy Day, we cannot help but ask who will now carry forward his democratic ideas? Who will fill the void left by the ‘energetic politician and businessman’?
In one of his last known conversations before his passing, he was heard asking, “What are we going to do for these people?” That question encapsulates the life and mind of Oluseye Olaoye Samuel. He had no patience for idleness. He believed that every individual must be productive, that democracy is not just about the majority, but about the wellbeing of the masses.
He was dearly loved, and always available to press every necessary button to find solutions for the challenges faced by the political movement he deeply respected and committed to, especially the one led by his close person, Akinola Kazeem. Hon. Seye’s legacy lives on—not just in memory, but in the principles and purpose he so passionately upheld.

As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day on June 12, we are reminded that democracy is not just about casting votes; it is about service, sacrifice, and standing for the people. That exactly is the central interest of Hon. Seye Olaoye. He embodied all of these values, and his absence leaves a deep sense of reflection.
