A Pro-democracy Group in Ibadan has called on the people of Ibadan North federal constituency to categorically reject what it alleged as vote buying technique ahead of bye-election. The group via their leader cautioned against any form of inducement and attempt to undermine their power of electorate with whatever palliative, particularly food items like rice, spaghetti and the likes that some politicians might wanted to distribute across the 12 wards of the council area by their agents.
In a statement made available to the press by the group spokesperson, Hon. Monsuru Adeyemo (Socrates), the group maintained that one political party and some personalities are in panic mode ahead of the election, and thus resorting to distributing assumed to be item stored over months unhygienically somewhere to curry undue favor from the good people of the federal constituency and the pacesetter state at large, “so they have no option but to resort to inducing voters.”

“Dear good people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency and our enlightened voters! We urge you to reject any form of inducement and the political party that is extending the hand. As we all know, some alleged palliative kept for months, if not years are about to be roll out. We wonder why they kept it unnecessarily over years and now decided to share it now. At least if they are going to do such, the rice, as alleged, especially should be subjected to screening to confirm its ‘eatability’ status. We are particular about the well-being of people of Ibadan North, and sustainability of our true democracy.”
“It is then crystal clear that with some political parties think everybody is buyable. They have irresponsibly reduced our esteemed constituents and highly respected voters to crumb seekers. This is so ridiculous, and we must collectively fight it.”
“This is not only unhealthy for the body, but also it is dangerous for the health of our democratic process. It undermines the values of our integrous electorate and our democratization,” Also added that “the people deserve honest governance, not tactics that attempt to buy votes and force an incompetent representative on our electoral district.

“Every reality is observable and measurable. This desperation signals weakness from the alleged party reportedly doing that. Of course, the alleged party’s hurried distribution of these items reveals their fear over their party’s assumed impending electoral defeat.”
“Our good people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency! Let’s stand against manipulation. Let’s reject these items. Let’s empower ourselves and our constituency. Let’s collectively wage war against manipulation and demand a future built on transparency and accountability,” the group encouraged.
