Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, representing Oyo North Senatorial District, has charged students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to pursue academic excellence and prepare themselves to meet society’s future expectations.
The third-term lawmaker and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant gave the charge while speaking as Chairman at the orientation programme of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), The Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter, held at the institution’s Assembly Hall.
While narrating his academic journey for the benefit of the students, the Ogbomoso-born politician emphasised that there is no shortcut to success other than dedication, discipline, and commitment.
“I want to encourage all of you to have faith in your Creator, commit yourselves to your academic sojourn, and always turn to God whenever you find yourselves in distress or challenging situations,” he said.
“I am grateful to Allah because He has never turned me down at any moment in my life—not because I am perfect, but because I always run to Him and seek His intervention whenever I need it. I am sharing this with you to let you know that sacrificing a few minutes of your time to pray for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding will help you successfully navigate your academic journey here,” Buhari added.
The senator also urged the students to adhere strictly to the guidelines for academic success earlier highlighted by the guest lecturer at the event.
“Just as the guest lecturer has provided useful tips for academic success, I am equally imploring you to adhere to those tips diligently, for your own good and the success of your academic pursuits,” he said.
Dignitaries at the programme included the Vice-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Prof. Musa Aibinu Abiodun; the Chief Executive Officer of Kayreom Lee, Alhaja Rahmat; the Chief Imam of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Barr. Abdulwaheed Lawal; representatives of the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); and other notable guests.
