Akinola Kazeem Condemns Killing of Innocent WAEC Candidate

APC chieftain and hopeful of Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Akinola Kazeem, has condemned the tragic loss of a WAEC candidate allegedly shot by a stray police bullet in Ibadan while sitting in his father’s car.

According to his Media Assistant, Akintunde Yusuf, Akinola described the incident as tragic and unfortunate, undermining the professionalism and integrity of the Nigerian security system. The student, reportedly shot by an alleged police officer chasing another vehicle in the Gbagi area, was heading to school for his WAEC exam when he was killed.

He was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, prompting protests at the Governor’s office in Agodi, Ibadan. Akinola Kazeem condoled the family, “It is a tough thing to bear. So sad. I sympathise with his parents and may God give them the strength to bear the loss and shocks.”

As a retired Army Captain and security expert, Akinola emphasized that “It’s unprofessional to shoot within a city full of traffic and commuters. While security agents must carry out their duties, they must also apply caution when operating in populated areas.”

Akinola urged the Nigerian Police Force and the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to thoroughly investigate the incident and punish the erring officer(s) appropriately.

He added that “This is the right time to call for more training and re-training of Nigeria Police Officers on the right rules of engagement. This includes proper conduct in operational situations.”
