A Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has remanded a well-known alleged land grabber, Mathew Yusuf Ogo, following charges filed against him by the Commissioner of Police in a case brought by Mr. Emmanuel A.O.

Ogo and his accomplices were charged with offenses including land grabbing, malicious damage, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace; crimes punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000. The alleged offenses took place in the Adegbayi area of Ibadan.

According to the charges, Mathew Ogo and others unlawfully took over two plots of land belonging to Mr. Emmanuel A. O. and engaged in conduct likely to disturb public order. Additionally, they were accused of willfully damaging blocks valued at ₦250,000, property of Mr. Emmanuel.

At Court 7 of the Magistrate Court (Charge No. MI/248/C/2025), presided over by Magistrate Olanipekun, the accused were ordered to be remanded. However, the court granted them administrative bail under the following conditions: a ₦200,000 fine, two sureties who are gainfully employed, blood relatives, and must have verified addresses.

Findings further revealed that the accused had a history of land-grabbing cases at the Oyo State Magistrate Court. Reports also linked them to a notable traditional ruler known for acquiring illegally grabbed lands.

The case was adjourned to April 2, 2025, for further hearing.
