TMC — Islamic scholars have underscored the urgent need for soul reformation as a cornerstone for moral rebirth and sustainable social change in Nigeria.
This message resonated strongly at the closing ceremony of the 32nd National Islamic Training Programme (NITP), a four-day event organised by The Muslim Congress (TMC) in Oyo State. Themed “Guidance and Direction for Today’s Muslim,” the programme brought together scholars, clerics, and participants from across the country.
Addressing participants, the Chief Imam of Oyoland, Sheikh Bilaal Oseni Akinola Akeugberu, urged Muslims nationwide to embrace Islamic training camps as opportunities for moral renewal and spiritual growth. He emphasised that genuine societal transformation must begin with the reform of the individual soul.
“The reformation of character and the improvement of one’s relationship with Allah and humanity are the bedrock of meaningful social change,” Sheikh Bilaal Akeugberu said.
He lauded TMC for its long-standing commitment to nurturing spiritually conscious and morally upright Muslims through sound education and practical guidance, urging the organisation to sustain its efforts in promoting disciplined and socially responsible lifestyles.
In his remarks, the Grand Mufti of Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), Sheikh Dhikrullahi Shaffi, commended the Chief Imam for his presence and recent appointment. He expressed confidence that Sheikh Bilaal Akeugberu would continue to champion the moral and spiritual development of the Muslim community.
Delivering his lecture, Ustadh Abdulrasheed Arogundade charged participants to translate the lessons acquired during the camp into their daily lives. He cautioned that “knowledge without action cannot reform the soul,” and urged Muslims to reflect Islamic teachings in their personal conduct, family life, and social engagements.
He further advised participants to uphold Islamic ethics in everyday activities, including business dealings, family relations, health management, and community service.
On the issue of United States military strikes in Nigeria, Ustadh Arogundade stressed that counterterrorism efforts must be intelligence-driven, precise, and sensitive to civilian safety to prevent escalation or unintended harm.
Representing the National Amir of TMC, Alhaji Abdulwasi Taiwo Bangbala, the Wali of Osun State, Ustadh Iyiola Ayodeji, reminded participants that attendance alone was insufficient. He reiterated that the true essence of such programmes lies in practising the knowledge gained.
The 32nd NITP, jointly hosted by Oyo, Osun, and Kwara States, drew about 800 participants. The event featured a variety of activities, including lectures, Qur’an competitions, health and entrepreneurship sessions, as well as sports.
The programme concluded with renewed calls for Muslims to embody spiritual discipline, moral responsibility, and community service as tools for societal reform.
