Following the post Chieftaincy title bestow on the Ilaji Hotels and Resorts Boss, Dotun Sanusi as Okanlomo Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja I, a Yoruba socio-cultural group has called on eminent Yoruba elders, fora and associations to caution Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo in order to maintain peace and mutual coexistence of Yoruba sons and daughters.

In their message, as signed by the Coordinator, Com. Oluwatowoju Afolabi, he explained that, given the revered Ooni of Ife ’48 hours ultimatum’ is ill and highly disrespectful for the throne of Ooni of Ife and the entire Ife kingdom, and that should not have come from a revered traditional ruler in the name of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade.

“We, the Concerned Omoluabi Yoruba across the globe, are calling on Yoruba elders, fora, and Yoruba associations to call His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Owoade (Alaafin of Oyo) to order over his conduct in just a few months of his ascension to the throne.”

“It has come to our notice that Kabiesi has adopted a pompous character and has, on one or two occasions, stepped on the Ooni’s toes. The voices of Yoruba elders, sons, and daughters should be amplified and should intervene in this matter that is capable of bringing about discord and ruckus in Yoruba land.”

“We are aware that the Ooni has never reciprocated the Alaafin’s behavior towards him. What a display of maturity!”

“The recent news that spread like wildfire about the chieftaincy title Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi conferred on business mogul Chief Dotun Sanusi is another example of garrulousness that should not have come from a revered throne like the Oyo kingdom.”

“For the avoidance of doubt and without equivocation, the man Dotun Sanusi is an institution in his own right and beyond any chieftaincy title. Beyond rhetoric, he is an Olubadan in the making as he is currently on the Olubadan’s stool.”

“Dotun Sanusi has set a pace among businessmen. To his credit, he has single-handedly facilitated electrification to over sixteen communities in Ibadan. He has an international school with well-paid teachers, and his hotel and resort are havens of hospitality, alongside a football academy that has provided a platform for many young Nigerian footballers abroad.”

“The title Okanlomo was not recently given; it was awarded a few years ago, and the Ooni used the opportunity of commissioning the first online social media platform to authenticate it. The facts are evident when it comes to the shenanigans.’

“The Yoruba nation is known for peace, unification, and a unique cultural heritage. The throne of our kings should not be westernized in the new civilizations, and all power struggles should be averted by our royal fathers to prevent unwanted setbacks and chaos.”

“We all know that a house divided against itself cannot stand. We cannot afford to lose our dignity as the most populous and revered tribe.”

In their conclusion, they called on Afenifere and other Yoruba elder councils to caution the Alaafin against trampling upon the office of the Ooni and vice versa.

“Yoruba Obas should understand that we are looking up to them, and we expect nothing but maturity, integrity, and good antecedents from them all.”

“Moreover, we should not be ungrateful to those contributing immensely to economic growth through job creation and poverty alleviation. Someone like Dotun Sanusi deserves better, and his conferment should not be used as a personal vendetta or as a means to exhibit ranks, authority, or power.”
